Registration begins April 10 for Barrington Junior Women’s Club (BJWC) 2010 Safety Town. During the two-week sessions, June 14-25 and July 12-23, children attend classes Monday through Friday for 2.5 hours each day at The Orchard Church in Barrington (formerly Health World). Two class times offered during each session are 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3 p.m.
Safety Town is an educational summer program sponsored by BJWC where a variety of important safety lessons are taught through participation and demonstrations. Safety topics covered include pedestrian, motorist, fire, bicycle, water, poison, electrical, animal, and playground safety, as well as stranger danger. Children also review their address and phone number and how to properly use 911 for an emergency.
Children entering kindergarten or first grade who have not previously participated in Safety Town are eligible. The Safety Town enrollment fee for campers is $100. Scholarships are available based on financial need. Students completing sixth, seventh and eighth grade can participate as volunteers.
Registration will be held on April 10th from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Barrington Public Safety Building for students residing in the 60010 zip code or in School District 220. Application forms will be available at the Barrington area pre-schools and elementary schools and at www.bjwc.org. All mail-in registrations will be processed on a first-come/first-serve basis after walk-in registration on April 10.
